A lot of the movies or books that I entertain myself with seem to always referenceThe Great Gatsby so I thought it was fitting that I read it for my AP book. I read a lot of books during my 16 years of living but never one like this. The writing style was very unique and the story was different. It's set in the 1920's which intrigued me because I've always been a fan of the "Roaring Twenties". This is definitely one of those books where you have to push through the beginning because its slow but when you get to the middle or end its absolutely amazing. There's this sting of mystery and romance and it really pulls you in. At the beginning it's almost to much because you're introduced to so many characters so you're putting the pieces together but at the end it all fits into one big puzzle piece. One quote that really stuck with me was "Just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.." (…

Not Your Typical Love Story

My favorite books are the ones that completely engulf you. Its like you are in a different world. You're living a different life for a minutes at a time. I've fallen in love with this feeling. When you find a book that has this effect on you it's as if you don't ever want to quit reading it. I feel this way about The Summer I Turned Prettyby Jenny Han. Summer is upon us so I felt it was only right to read a book about the season. Little did I know that it would be so much more. When reading this book you get swallowed by so many emotions. It's not your typical summer love story that every girl reads. You deal with so much more. It has this amazing aspect of memories that Belly, the main character, shows you. You get to compare and contrast her memories with what's going on in her present life. Jenny Han does a great job of creating in depth characters and real life scenarios. This book deals with real life situations like divorce, death and love. You really fee…

Time To Set Some Goals

Welcome to my blog! My name is Devine Cook. I'm a sophomore at Hebron Highschool. Growing up I've always been a huge reader. My mom always read a book to me before bed. I was always expected to read at least ten pages of a book after school in elementary. Reading has played a big part in my life. Anytime I'm sad or bored I always read. It's almost an escape from the real world. For a short amount of time I can be emerged into a different world. I'm not very good at setting goals because I never have the motivation to finish them but I thought that I would try and set a reading goal. This year I want to read at least 15 books and read at least an hour a day. Hopefully I can follow through and live up to my expectations.
